a windows format will not fix problems with a hd. The drive should then behave as if it is a new drive and there is really no reason to zero any more of the drive unless you are trying to make Nothing special by manufacturer about the command - it's standard ATA. it simply changes the first bit of each file to trick the os into thinking nothing is there.

How do you run Zero fill with Maxtors MaxBlast? This removes every thing from your drive and preps it as if it was brand new(Format wise).
